Driving with Frank Sinatra

For ten years I wrote and read essays on WBEZ, the Chicago NPR station. It was a great learning experience. I had to develop a hook, a narrative arc and a big finish all in three to six minutes. Fortunately for me, the staff at WBEZ was very supportive and encouraging. I gained so much confidence from writing and reading my stories on the radio. This story, “Driving with Frank Sinatra” won the Peter Lisagor Award from the Society of Professional Journalists. Here’s the link to listen. You have to put in your email address (they won’t contact you or sell your information)and you DON”T have to donate to listen.
